St. Paul Park police reports for Aug. 16

Criminal activity includes burglary, property damage, vandalism and theft.

Property damage

Police were called June 23 to Pullman and Selby avenues after a nearby homeowner reported that someone had struck a power pole, knocking off the base of the pole.

A St. Paul Park man told police June 9 that someone struck the outside of his home with BBs. The property in the 1100 block of 16th Avenue had siding damage.

A Cottage Grove woman reported June 16 that she saw a St. Paul Park man hit her vehicle parked in the 300 block of Pullman Avenue and drive away. That reportedly happened immediately after someone entered her apartment and shot a man who was sleeping in the apartment with a pellet gun. Two suspects were identified, but no arrests were listed.

Found child

Police helped a 3-year-old child who escaped from her home on May 26. Officers were called to a home in the 1400 block of Dixon Drive after people found a young girl playing in puddles along the street. The girl told an officer her name and showed police where she lived in the 1400 block of Blossom Lane. They returned to the girl’s home. Her father and two brothers had been looking for her. Her father said the girl slipped through child proofing and left the home.

Vandalism

A St. Paul Park woman reported June 15 that someone threw eggs at her home in the 900 block of Lincoln Avenue.

Bike accident

A St. Paul man was transported to Regions Hospital in St. Paul after a bike accident July 15 on the railroad tracks at Fifth Street and Broadway Avenue. The man suffered a broken thumb after he was flipped off of his bike when it got stuck in a gap in the railroad crossing.

River rescue

St. Paul Park’s police and fire crews on July 15 used a boat to transport a patient from a tugboat on the Mississippi River near the Northern Tier Engery refinery. The patient was treated by Cottage Grove paramedics.

Burglary

Police were called July 16 to a home in the 700 block of First Street on a report that someone had entered the garage and tampered with items. Nothing was reported stolen.

Theft

A St. Paul Park man reported July 18 that a cellphone was stolen from a vehicle parked in his driveway in the 1000 block of Eighth Avenue. A suspect was identified.

A St. Paul Park man reported July 18 that someone stole three fishing poles, a tackle box, a chainsaw and a marine battery from his boat parked in his driveway in the 700 block of First Street.

Police responded July 18 to a St. Paul Park woman’s report that someone tampered with vehicles in the 1300 block of Fourth Street, and an iPod ($50) was stolen from a vehicle.

Police were called to the area between Seventh and Ninth avenues south of Broadway Avenue after it was reported that copper ground wires had been removed from power poles in the area. Police found seven poles from which about four feet of copper had been clipped and removed. An officer found another six poles between 13th Avenue and Gary Drive that also were missing ground wires.

Domestic

A St. Paul man was arrested July 19 after a St. Paul Park woman said her boyfriend threatened to kill her. The man was walking from St. Paul to St. Paul Park, and police arrested him at the woman’s Pleasant Avenue home. Hernan A. Smiley-Smith, 36, was booked into the Washington County jail on suspicion of terroristic threats.

Assault

One person was cited and another was arrested following a fight during a child custody exchange July 22 at Third Street and Pullman Avenue. A 30-year-old Cottage Grove woman was cited for fifth-degree assault for allegedly hit a St. Paul Park woman in the face. Also, Joshua J. Sandoval, of Cottage Grove, was arrested and jailed for an outstanding warrant following the incident.

Homeless in tree

Police received a report July 21 that a homeless man was living in a tree near Summit and Ashland avenues. Police found the possible site and planned to monitor the area.
