Cottage Grove police reports for Aug. 15

Recent criminal activity includes underage drinking, assault, property damage and theft.

Theft

Kohl’s, 7990 Hardwood Avenue, reported a shoplifting incident July 16. An 11-year-old Cottage Grove girl was referred to the Youth Service Bureau for the theft of $85 worth of merchandise.

A Cottage Grove woman reported July 18 that someone stole a lawnmower from outside a home in the 8900 block of Inwood Avenue. The woman said she heard something outside at about 2 a.m. She saw three men take her lawnmower, put it into a truck and drive away.

A Cottage Grove resident reported at about 6:20 a.m. July 18 seeing a man riding a bicycle break the window of a car belonging to a neighbor and taking a purse from inside. The vehicle was parked in the 7400 block of Hidden Valley Trail. The suspect then rode away. Police found the suspect’s bicycle about three blocks away. The purse also was found with all of its contents. Damage to the vehicle window was estimated at $500.

Holiday gas station, 8101 Hadley Ave., reported a $20 gas drive-off on July 19.

A Cottage Grove woman reported July 20 that a purse was stolen from a vehicle parked in a garage in the7900 block of Joliet Ave. Total loss: $220.

A homeowner in the 7400 block of Illies Avenue reported July 21 that someone went through an unlocked garage and rummaged through vehicles inside. A wallet was stolen, for a loss totaling $13.

A resident in the 6900 block of Prairie Court reported July 21 that someone stole a laptop computer ($2,000) and eight to 10 CDs from vehicles parked in the driveway. There was no damage to either vehicle.

A Cottage Grove woman reported July 21 that someone entered an unlocked garage in the 9200 block of Indian Boulevard and stole $470 worth of possession, including a gym bag with contents inside.

Holiday gas station, 8101 Hadley Ave., reported a $35 gas drive-off on July 22.

Property damage

A woman reported July 13 that her vehicle was scratched while parked at the Cottage Grove National Guard Armory, 8180 Belden Blvd. Two other vehicles also were scratched.

A Cottage Grove resident reported July 15 that the liner of a swimming pool was damaged outside a home in the 8200 block of Joliet Avenue. Damage was estimated at $470.

Police were called to the 6500 block of Bluestem Lane on July 18 after a resident reported that eggs were thrown at a vehicle parked in the area. There were no suspects.

A Cottage Grove resident reported July 23 that someone stole a trolling motor from a boat parked in the 9400 block of 71st Street. The motor was valued at $500.

Police received a report July 22 that a window was smashed on the building at Hearthside Park, 8245 Hearthside Road. That is the building that has been vandalized multiple times this summer.

Assault

A 20-year-old Cottage Grove woman was cited for fifth-degree assault for allegedly punching a 22-year-old Cottage Grove man during a July 13 altercation in the 8300 block of Greene Avenue.

A 16-year-old Cottage Grove boy was cited for fifth-degree domestic assault and transported to Washington County jail for allegedly punching his 14-year-old sister in the face during an altercation July 17 at a home in the 8200 block of Grange Blvd.

Illegal fireworks

Police ticketed an 18-year-old Cottage Grove man for illegal possession of fireworks after a small grass fire was reported July 21 near Imperial Avenue and Imperial Circle.

Vehicle tampering

A Cottage Grove man reported July 14 that someone tampered with his vehicle while it was parked in the 9200 block of Indian Boulevard.

Police were called to the 9600 block of Hames Avenue around 2:40 a.m. July 17 on a report that three Caucasian males were trying to break into vehicles. They were last seen running into Pine Glen Park. Suspects were not located.

A resident in the 8100 block of Jergen Avenue reported July 20 that someone went through a vehicle parked at the residence, but nothing was missing.

Underage drinking

A 19-year-old Woodbury man was cited for minor consumption after police found him walking in the middle of the road near Military Road and Radio Drive at 7:45 a.m. July 15.

Tobacco sale violation

A Cottage Grove woman employed by Cub Foods, 8690 East Point Douglas Road, was cited July 16 for selling tobacco to a 16-year-old male who was working with police on a tobacco compliance check.
