Construction workers interrupted an apparent early morning burglary at a Cottage Grove school.

Police were called to Armstrong Elementary School, 8855 Inwood Ave., at 5:30 a.m. July 21, after construction crew members got to the job site and heard noises in the building. The workers checked the building and caught a glimpse of two pairs of legs exiting to the building roof. Two males were then seen running across the school roof. The suspects got away, but a number of items from inside the school were found staged on the roof.

Two days later, police were called to the school after someone set off two fire extinguishers outside the south end of the school.

Officers started providing extra patrol around the school, which is under construction this summer.
