Famous Dave's submits plans for Cottage Grove restaurant
Famous Dave’s submitted site plans to the city’s planning department this week that propose to redevelop a vacant former Kentucky Fried Chicken space at 8479 East Point Douglas Rd.
Grab the wetnaps, Cottage Grove – a famous local barbecue joint is poised to open its doors in the city as early as this fall.
Representatives of Famous Dave’s, the Minnetonka-based chain barbecue restaurant that specializes in ribs and hickory-smoked meat, submitted site plans to the city’s planning department this week that propose to redevelop a vacant former Kentucky Fried Chicken space at 8479 East Point Douglas Rd.
Economic Development Director Danette Parr said Wednesday the proposal requires a conditional use permit to allow beer and liquor to be served in that zoning district. That will require a public hearing at both the Planning Commission and City Council level, she said.
Based on the submitted plans, Parr said, it appears the locale will be a take-out focused restaurant different from larger, dine-in Famous Dave’s locations in nearby Woodbury and West St. Paul.
She said the restaurant could be open as early as November.
A Famous Dave’s spokesperson on Wednesday could not immediately confirm the plans. The company has nearly 200 restaurants in 36 states and one Canadian province.
