Cottage Grove is marketing a city-owned piece of property that has resisted commercial development.
City officials are shopping the 72,0000-square-foot parcel that sits just north of a Ruby Tuesday restaurant on Hardwood Avenue. That property has remained undeveloped since Cottage Grove purchased it as part of a development project that brought Kohl’s to the city roughly a decade ago.
Economic Development Authority and Cottage Grove City Council members have urged the city to market the site more aggressively, City Administrator Ryan Schroeder said.
In the past, prospective buyers have included Bakers Square, other restaurants, retail developers and a proposed Holiday Inn Express that stalled when the national economy slowed in 2007.
The city is marketing the property at a price of $9 per square foot.
