Can’t make it to the hospital to give birth? A mother could do worse than parking outside the local police station.
Paramedic-trained police officers from St. Paul Park and Cottage Grove arrived on-scene just after St. Paul Park woman Taylor Kreider had delivered a baby shortly after 3 a.m. Tuesday in the back of a car outside the St. Paul Park police and fire departments. Police say Krieder, the baby’s father and grandmother couldn’t make it to St. Joseph’s Hospital in St. Paul in time.
Officers instructed Krieder to massage the baby -- who looked pale and was not crying when police arrived –- to promote oxygen flow and then, according to police, cut the newborn’s umbilical cord when its condition had stabilized.
The mother and baby were transported by Cottage Grove ambulance to St. Joseph’s Hospital.
