Cottage Grove police reports

Recent criminal activity in Cottage Grove.

Theft

A 22-year-old Cottage Grove woman was cited for theft July 11 after she admitted to stealing candy from SuperAmerica, 7162 East Point Douglas Road.

Two 19-year-old Cottage Grove men were ticketed for theft at Kohl’s, 7990 Hardwood Ave., on July 11. One man stole jewelry valued at $65; the other stole merchandise worth $95.

Applebee’s restaurant, 8380 East Point Douglas Road, reported July 11 that three men left without paying a $58 bill.

Holiday gas station, 8101 Hadley Avenue, reported a $20 gas drive-off July 13.

Vandalism

A Cottage Grove resident reported June 30 that someone sprayed mustard on a car, threw eggs at a garage and left a handicapped sign and pole in the yard of a home in the 7600 block of Ivystone Avenue.

Properties within two blocks of one another were hit by vandals July 6 or 7. A homeowner in the 6600 block of Bluestem Lane reported that the house was egged. Then, a homeowner in the 6500 block of Bluestem Lane reported that a vehicle was hit by eggs. No permanent damage was done.

Fight

Police were called June 30 to the area near Pinetree Valley Park in the 8400 block of Indian Boulevard on a report of a fight. A 15-year-old Cottage Grove girl was given a juvenile ticket for disorderly conduct. Police gave a juvenile ticket to another 15-year-old Cottage Grove girl for fifth-degree assault for punching the other girl involved.

Police on July 1 were told by the Woodbury Police Department that a boy was assaulted at Woodridge Park in Cottage Grove earlier in the day. Cottage Grove police contacted the suspect, who admitted to assault. The 15-year-old Cottage Grove boy was referred to the Youth Service Bureau for fifth-degree assault.

Police were called shortly before midnight July 4 to American Motorsports Bar and Grill, 7240 East Point Douglas Road, on a report of a fight in the parking lot. When officers arrived, there was no fight occurring and nobody would talk to police.

Fire

Firefighters were called to a fire in a wooded area near Zion Lutheran Church on Hillside Trail about 8:30 p.m. July 1. A small fire was extinguished. There was nobody around.

Cottage Grove firefighters and Xcel Energy were called to the 8000 block of Ideal Avenue about 4 a.m. July 3 after a lightning strike cause a power pole to start on fire.

Illegal campsite

A homeowner in the 7800 block of Irish Avenue reported July 2 that a tent was found in a wooded area near the home. The tent appeared to have been occupied, but nobody was found nearby.

Tobacco violation

A 17-year-old Newport boy was given a juvenile ticket for tobacco violation on July 2. Police had been called to Country Inn and Suites, 8350 East Point Douglas Road, on a report that juveniles who were not staying at the hotel snuck in and were swimming in the pool. Police found juveniles nearby at 90th Street and Jamaica Avenue, and cited the Newport boy.

Property damage

Police were called to the 8500 block of Hale Avenue on July 2 after someone broke a window on a home there. No damage estimate.

The District 833 Program Center reported July 3 that a window was broken on the building in the 8400 block of East Point Douglas Road. Damage: $250.

A Cottage Grove police car was damaged after it struck an owl in the road around 3 a.m. July 4 while the officer was assisting with a safe-and-sober driving campaign.

A Cottage Grove man reported July 5 that a vehicle was scratched while it was parked in the 6800 block of Meadow Grass Lane. Damage: $100.

Police received a report July 5 that a home was damaged in the 8800 block of Ironwood Avenue. A door was damaged, but there was no sign of anyone entering the home.

Mississippi Dunes Golf Links, 10351 Grey Cloud Trail, reported July 6 that someone broke into the ball shack at the driving range, causing damage to the door and the ball machine. No loss listed.

A Cottage Grove resident reported July 6 that an unknown driver struck and damaged a mailbox in the 8800 block of Indahl Avenue. Loss: $150.

A Cottage Grove man reported July 7 that his vehicle was broken into while it was at Cottage Grove Ravine Park, 9940 East Point Douglas Road. A window was damaged and a purse was stolen. Loss: $231.

A Cottage Grove man reported July 8 that a vehicle was broken into while it was parked in the 10000 block of Kimbro Circle. His wallet was stolen and afterward there were two unauthorized transactions on his credit card. Loss: $80.

A Cottage Grove resident reported July 9 that someone broke a window on a home in the 8200 block of Joliet Avenue.

Drugs

A 28-year-old St. Paul man was cited for possession of a small amount of marijuana in a motor vehicle and possession of drug paraphernalia on July 2. Police stopped the vehicle at Hinton Avenue and 80th Street after seeing it pull behind Crestview Elementary School shortly before midnight.

Underage drinking

Four people were cited for underage drinking after they were found in a home in the 7300 Lamar Avenue around 10 a.m. July 3. Police were called to the home after someone reported that a window was broken and the door was open. Officers found four people inside drinking: two 16-year-old Woodbury girls, a 19-year-old Woodbury man and a 16-year-old Oakdale girl. One of the four was related to the homeowner.

Suspicious male

A group of juvenile females around 14 years old called police July 9 after they were walking in the 8600 block of 70th Street and were approached by an adult male who asked for their phone numbers. Police located the man, who said she thought the girls were older. Police told him not to do that.

Suspicious vehicle

A Cottage Grove police officer approached a suspicious vehicle shortly before 3 a.m. July 10 in a cul-de-sac at 95th Street and Hemingway Avenue. The officer found two people engaged in sexual activity inside. They were told to go elsewhere.

A Cottage Grove police officer found a suspicious vehicle parked on Glendenning Road at 3 a.m. July 10. The people inside the vehicle said they were just talking.

Burglary

A Cottage Grove man reported July 10 that someone broke into his garage and stole various items totaling $1,145, including a cellphone, camera, copper wire and a wallet. The home is in the 6500 block of 77th Street.
