Filing to begin soon for Cottage Grove, Newport positions

Candidates for mayor and city council in Cottage Grove and Newport can file for office beginning later this month.

The municipal candidate filing period opens Tuesday, July 31 and runs through Tuesday, Aug. 14.

In Cottage Grove, Mayor Myron Bailey is up for re-election. Council seats held by Jen Peterson and Justin Olsen also will be on the Nov. 6 ballot. Bailey and Peterson have announced plans to run for another four-year term.

Candidates can file at City Hall, 7516 80th St., from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. City Hall will be open for filing until 5 p.m. on Aug. 14.

In Newport, Mayor Tim Geraghty is running for another term, and council seats held by Bill Sumner and Tom Ingemann also are up for grabs this fall. All seats are four-year terms.

Candidates for the Newport positions can file from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Thursday at City Hall, 596 Seventh Ave.

There is no primary election for municipal races.

Grey Cloud Island Township residents also will fill three seats in the Nov. 6 election. Two supervisor positions and the treasurer’s seat will be on the ballot. Filing begins July 31 and ends Aug. 14. For information or an application, call Rich Mullen at 651-459-6236.
