Cottage Grove police reports for June 27

Recent criminal activity in Cottage Grove.

Vandalism

A Cottage Grove resident reported an odd incident of vandalism on May 20. The homeowner called police after someone put bologna on windows, the driveway, the garage door and on the windows of a vehicle parked at the home in the 6500 block of Bluestem Lane.

A Cottage Grove resident reported May 27 that a home in the 8700 block of Greene Avenue was hit with paintballs. There was no damage.

Police received a report June 1 that a house in the 8400 block of Greenway Avenue had been struck with paintballs.

Drugs

Police arrested a White Bear Lake man on suspicion of drug charges May 21 after he was found riding a bike at 2:30 a.m. on Jamaica Avenue south of Hillside Trail. The 46-year-old man allegedly was in possession of methamphetamine, according to the report. Formal charges were pending.

Property damage

An employee of Holiday gas station, 8101 Hadley Ave., reported May 29 that a vehicle parked at the store was damaged on the hood and windshield.

A Cottage Grove resident reported June 2 that someone broke a window on a vehicle parked in the 9000 block of Jensen Avenue. Damage estimated at $200.

A construction trailer parked at Armstrong Elementary School, 8855 Inwood Ave., was damaged June 4. Fourteen taillights were broken and three or four holes were punched in the aluminum. Damage was estimated at $500 to $1,000.

A Cottage Grove resident reported June 5 that a window was broken on a home in the 9100 block of Jeffery Avenue. No damage estimate was listed.

Police received a report June 11 that windows were damaged on a barn in the 9200 block of 80th Street. No damage estimate.

A Cottage Grove man reported June 11 that a window was smashed on his vehicle while it was parked at Subway, 7430 80th St. Damage: $250.

River Oaks Golf Course, 11099 West Point Douglas Road, reported June 12 that someone drove a vehicle on a putting green and practice area, causing $1,500 damage.

Travelnet Solutions, 9900 Hemingway Ave., reported June 12 that someone threw eggs at a window and wrote obscenities on a building wall.

Police were called to Hearthside Park June 14 on a report that a portable toilet had been knocked over. No damage done.

Fight

A 17-year-old Woodbury male and a 16-year-old Newport male were cited for disorderly conduct following a fight May 23 at the District 833 Alternative Learning Center, 8400 East Point Douglas Road.

Burglary

Police caught two people in a vacant home with tools often used to remove pipes. Police were checking on a vacant home in the 8200 block of Hyde Avenue on May 26 when they found two people inside. Daniel T. Ward, 39, of St. Paul, was arrested on suspicion of second-degree burglary, possession of burglary tools, trespassing, obstructing the legal process and a weapon charge. Christina M. Leisering, 32, of Cottage Grove, was arrested on suspicion of second-degree burglary, possession of burglary tools and trespassing. Both were booked into the Washington County jail.

A Cottage Grove resident reported May 26 that four vehicle rims and tires valued at $500 were stolen from a garage in the 7900 block of Hearthside Ave.

Fire

Cottage Grove firefighters were called at about 2:45 p.m. May 23 to Idsen Avenue and 70th Street for a grass fire.

Cottage Grove firefighters were called at about 5 p.m. May 23 to 70th Street and Idsen Avenue for an arcing power line.

Gas leak

Holiday gas station, 8610 East Point Douglas Road, reported May 25 that a gas-hauling truck driver was filing underground tanks when an incorrect lever was activated, causing gasoline to leak into the street. There was a loss of about 15 gallons. Cottage Grove Public Works and fire crews were called along with the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency. The gasoline was flushed and diluted with water, according to the report.

Shoplifting

A 45-year-old White Bear Lake man was cited for shoplifting after stealing $9 worth of merchandise at Cub Foods, 8690 East Point Douglas Road, on May 25.

A 17-year-old Cottage Grove male was referred to the Youth Service Bureau for theft and alcohol possession and another 17-year-old male was ticketed for shoplifting and alcohol possession after they stole alcohol and food from Rainbow Foods on May 25. They were located by police at nearby Hearthside Park.

Walgreens, 7135 East Point Douglas Road, reported May 29 that a 9-year-old Cottage Grove male had stolen merchandise. He was prohibited from returning to the store and was referred to the Youth Service Bureau.

Lighters in school

Three kids were referred to the Youth Service Bureau for using a lighter in school on May 29. The Cottage Grove males — two age 12, one 13 years old — were spraying cologne and attempting to light it on fire in a bathroom at Cottage Grove Middle School, 9775 Indian Blvd.

Suspicious dumping

Cottage Grove Public Works reported June 2 that someone had dumped several hundred pills into a used oil basin at the facility at 8635 West Point Douglas Road.

A Cottage Grove resident reported June 3 that someone broke a window on a vehicle parked in the 7900 block of Hearthside Avenue and stole a GPS unit. Damage estimated at $400. GPS unit valued at $150.

Theft

Holiday gas station, 8101 Hadley Ave., reported a $6 gas drive-off May 25.

Holiday gas station, 8610 East Point Douglas Road, reported a $11 gas drive-off May 27.

Menards, 9000 East Point Douglas Road, reported June 1 that a 47-year-old Hager City, Wis., man was cited for taking flea medication.

Top Ten Wine and Spirits, 8617 East Point Douglas Road, reported a theft on June 4. A 20-year-old Cottage Grove woman was cited for stealing a bottle of liquor.

A St. Paul woman reported June 5 that the windshield was broken on a vehicle parked at the Family Wellness Center in the 7500 block of 80th Street. Damage estimated at $500.

A Cottage Grove man reported June 10 that a window was broken on a vehicle parked at Walgreens, 7135 East Point Douglas Road. A laptop computer ($2,200) and accessories ($100) were stolen.

A St. Paul Park woman reported June 11 that her cellphone ($600) was stolen while she was at a residence in the 8800 block of 89th Street Circle.

SuperAmerica, 7162 East Point Douglas Road, reported a $67 gas drive-off on June 12.

Accident

A 21-year-old Lewiston, Minn., woman was transported to an area hospital with injuries following a one-vehicle crash about 3:30 p.m. June 2 on Highway 61 at Manning Avenue. A tire blew on a vehicle driven by a 24-year-old Lewiston man, causing the vehicle to leave the road and strike a cable barrier, according to police.

Assault

Police were called to the Hamlet Skate Park, 8885 Hamlet Ave., on June 1 for a reported assault. Subsequently, a 16-year-old Cottage Grove male was charged with third-degree assault for allegedly punching another 16-year-old Cottage Grove male in the face, knocking out his front teeth.

A 28-year-old Cottage Grove man reported June 11 that he was punched by two men known to him while at a home in the 9000 block of 79th Street. There were no visible injuries. The case is under investigation.

Domestic

A 43-year-old Cottage Grove man was cited for fifth-degree domestic assault following a fight at a home in the 9000 block of Jensen Avenue around 10:40 p.m. June 3. A 41-year-old woman at the home said she and the man were in a heated verbal dispute when he pushed her out of bed and said he was going to get a gun. The woman never saw a gun but was fearful for her safety, according to police.
