Cottage Grove's Walmart store review postponed second time

Discount retail giant Walmart has asked the city of Cottage Grove to extend a deadline for reviewing its plans to build a Supercenter store on a portion of the Cottage View Drive-In theater site.

Discount retail giant Walmart has asked the city of Cottage Grove to extend a deadline for reviewing its plans to build a Supercenter store on a portion of the Cottage View Drive-In theater site.

The Cottage Grove Planning Commission is now scheduled to consider the plans for a the proposed 177,000-square-foot at its July 23 meeting following the retailer’s request to remove the review from the commission’s June 25 meeting.

Walmart submitted plans for the store to city planners in March. A Planning Commission review of the proposal has now been postponed twice while the city completes a study examining the store’s impacts on neighboring properties, traffic patterns and stormwater runoff.

The deadline for City Council review of the proposal under city ordinance is July 27 – 60 days from the date Walmart first submitted the plans to the Community Development Department. City officials said last week they had granted an extension through Aug. 31.

The City Council is expected to review the proposal at its Aug. 15 meeting.
