A discount grocery store will soon be moving into a large vacant spot on Tamarack Road.

Aldi is slated for a September opening in the former Borders location that closed last year after the company filed for bankruptcy.

Matt Lilla, vice president of the Aldi Fairbault, Minn., division, said there is a growing demand for Aldi products in Woodbury.

“Aldi chose the location for the new Woodbury store based on population density, proximity to competition, cost of the property and traffic patterns,” he wrote in an email. “Aldi wants to be conveniently based where Aldi shoppers are located.”

The 10,000-square-foot space will offer most commonly purchased grocery items at a 50 percent less than average rate, he said.

The new Aldi will join Savers, located across the street, in selling discounted items.

Another discount store that moved to Woodbury last year include Big Lots at Tamarack Village.
