A Cottage Grove road was closed for a time Tuesday after a semitrailer carrying grain stalled and then nearly tipped over.

The stretch of 70th Street between Keats and Lamar avenues was closed Tuesday afternoon. A truck driven by Roger Peterson, of River Falls, Wis., had mechanical problems while traveling on 70th Street east of Keats Avenue and pulled over. A second truck was brought to assist but when the stalled truck was separated from its trailer, the trailer’s jacks sank into the pavement and the trailer started to tip, Cottage Grove police said.

Equipment from nearby Goebel Farms was used to vacuum the stalled trailer’s grain into another trailer. Traffic lanes were reopened.

Washington County highway workers blocked the road while the trailer was removed and will repair damage caused by the trailer, police said.
