Cottage Grove police brief: Several garage, vehicle thefts reported in neighborhood

Cottage Grove police recently fielded several vehicle and garage break-in complaints from residents in a neighborhood southwest of Keats Avenue and 70th Street.
At least five vehicles were damaged or rummaged and electronic items and cash were stolen on and around Jonathan Avenue and 71st and 78th streets. All of the reports were made May 18.
In one case, a resident in the 7200 block of Jordon Avenue reported that someone had used a garage door opener that was in a vehicle to gain access to the garage. Vehicles had been rummaged through and three nail guns were stolen. The loss was estimated at $200.
Other incidents included:
-- a resident in the 7100 block of Jonathan Avenue reporting that a vehicle had been tampered with and money was stolen.
-- a stolen GPS device from a vehicle parked at a residence in the 7100 block of Jonathan Avenue. The vehicle had been unlocked. A police officer noticed a vehicle door slightly ajar and alerted the owner.
-- a report from a resident in the 9800 block of 71st Street who said a vehicle had been rummaged through but nothing was stolen.
-- a resident in the 7100 block of Jonathan Avenue reporting that a vehicle was damaged ($300 damage estimate) and that personal items were stolen but later recovered.
-- a theft from an unlocked vehicle parked at a residence in the 9200 block of 78th Street. A phone charger and cash was stolen. Loss: $30.
-- a resident in the 7700 block of Jasmine Avenue reporting that a vehicle had been tampered with, but nothing was stolen.
