Park’s Anna Keys earned a trip to the big dance last week.
Keys, a sophomore, qualified for the Minnesota State High School League Class AAA State Golf Tournament, shooting a two-day, 36-hole 171 at the Section 3AAA Championship Tournament, held between Phalen Golf Course in St. Paul and Bunker Hills Golf Course in Coon Rapids last week.
Out of section play, only one team advances to state, based on the two-day total, along with five individuals not on the top team.
Park shot a 394 on the first day to finish ninth in the 11-team section and was unable to advance to day No. 2 as a team. However, Keys, with an 87, and eighth grader Lexi Hofstetter, with a 93, each earned a right to play another day. In addition, Park eighth graders Annika Hein and Brooke Strenke shot 106 and 108 to round out the Wolfpack’s top four for day No. 1 of the tournament. On the second day, at Bunker Hills, Keys shot an 84 to tie for fifth place the day and eight place overall. The round allowed her to leapfrog East Ridge’s Andriel Aimua (85, 89-174), Apple Valley’s Maren Kleopfer (84, 91-175) and Simley’s Jessica Pate (86, 89-175) for a state berth.
Hofstetter shot a 99 on the second day to finish with a 192, which was good for 30th place overall.
Eastview won the Section 3AAA championship with a two-day 672. Eastview senior Sara Detlefson had the top score – 154 to win the individual section title.
The Class AAA State Tournament will start on Tuesday, June 12, at 7:30 a.m. at Bunker Hills.
Park graduates four seniors from its 2012 roster – Joelene Dittman, Bre Baker, Megan Diamond and Lexy Lamar.
