Newport police reports for June 1

Recent criminal activity included thefts, vandalism, property damage and a domestic incident.

Theft

A Newport man reported May 2 that someone stole a 27-foot trailer from the home in the 1600 block of 10th Avenue. Value of the trailer was not listed.

SuperAmerica gas station, 1624 Hastings Ave., reported May 5 that someone left without paying for gas. Value of the gas not listed.

A student at Newport Elementary School reported that his bike was stolen May 1. The bike was valued at $50.

Vandalism

A Newport man told police May 5 that his home in the 400 block of Sixth Avenue was egged. No permanent reported.

A resident in the 1500 block of Bluestem Lane reported April 29 that his vehicle was egged. Two other vehicles in the area also had been egged.

Fire

Firefighters from Newport and St. Paul Park were called shortly before 4 p.m. May 14 to an area near the railroad tracks along the west side of Highway 61 at Bailey Road for two grass fires. The fires were extinguished.

Suspicious activity

Police arrested a man on an outstanding warrant following a report of suspicious activity near Pioneer Park. Police were called to the park May 1 on a report of a van driving around the park. Officers saw two people exit the van and walk into a nearby wooded area. Subsequently, William J. Percy, 38, was arrested and booked into the Washington County jail for an outstanding warrant from Nicollet County.

Domestic

Police were called to a home in the 1000 block of Ford Road for a reported domestic incident April 25. Two males got into an altercation after reportedly threw a bottle of laundry detergent at the other male. The two were separated. No arrests made.

Property damage

The Clover Leaf Bar, 2146 Hastings Ave., reported May 11 that two men entered the bar, went to the bathroom, destroyed the toilet and then left the bar. Soon after, water started leaking from the bathroom.

Police were called May 22 to a Second Avenue home for a property damage report. Two neighbors were arguing over damage to one man’s lawn that was caused by the neighbor’s work with a Bobcat tractor.

Burglary

A Newport man reported May 2 that someone entered his garage in the 3000 block of Bailey Road and stole a bike and an iPod. The man also found a bag of his tools at the end of the driveway.

A Newport man reported May 3 that someone broke into a garage in the 1300 block of 12th Avenue and stole various items. Value was not listed.

Police are investigating a reported burglary at a Bailey Court home. The burglary was reported May 22. Further information was no immediately provided due to the active investigation, police said.
