Park girls golf: Keys second at Irish Invite

Park’s Anna Keys continued to swing a hot club last week for the Wolfpack girls golf team.

Keys, a sophomore, shot a 5-over-par 77 to take second place at the nine-team, 18-hole Rosemount Irish Invite at Emerald Green Golf Course. Keys shot a 38 on the front nine and a 39 on the back nine on the day. Overall, Park finished in ninth place with a 395 total. Red Wing won the tournament with a 313, followed by Edina (330) and Rosemount (350).

Park eighth-grader Lexi Hofsteter carded the Wolfpack’s second-best score with a 94 (45 on the front, 49 on the back). Eighth grader Annika Hein shot a 105 (51 front and 54 back) and eighth grader Brooke Strenke scored a 119 (60 front and 59 back) to round out Park’s top four.

After the non-conference tournament, Park took part in a pair of Suburban East Conference matches. Park finished in ninth place in each match out of 10 teams — ahead of White Bear Lake in both. First, Park shot a 399 in an 18-hole tourney on Monday, May 14, at the par-72 Hastings Country Club. Then, Park shot a 195 in a 9-hole match at the par-35 River Oaks Golf Course in Cottage Grove on Thursday, May 17. Stillwater won each tournament – with a 341 at Hastings and a 171 at River Oaks. Cretin-Derham Hall’s Celia Kuenster won both match individually with a 69 at Hastings and a 34 at River Oaks.

Individually, for Park, Keys shot a team-best 90 at Hastings, with a 44 on the front and a 46 on the back, followed by Hofstetter (45, 47—92), Hein (50, 54—104) and senior Joelene Dittman (56, 57—113). At River Oaks, Keys shot a team-best 44, followed by Hofstetter with a 47 and Dittman and Hein with matching 47s.

The Wolfpack played its final regular-season conference match on Monday after the Bulletin went to press. Next, Park takes the course at Oak Glen Golf Course on Thursday, May 24, with the Suburban East Conference Championships.
