The city of Cottage Grove and a local retail area are teaming up for an event aimed at enticing local shoppers to keep their dollars close to home.
The first Shop Cottage Grove Get-Together — part of the city’s larger shop local campaign “Shop Cottage Grove” — will take place, weather permitting, Saturday in the parking lot of Cottage Grove Plaza, the mall adjacent to the Target Store at 8655 East Point Douglas Rd from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Nearby retailers will offer discounts and shoppers can enjoy a barbecue and free activities like games, face painting, chair massages and appearances by a Cottage Grove fire truck and a police K-9 unit.
“We’re hoping people enjoy it and other retailers think it’s worthwhile,” said Danette Parr, the city’s economic development director.
Parr said the event is aimed at reinforcing for shoppers what the city’s various retail areas offer residents.
