(May 4, 2012 story) UPDATED: Police identify Cottage Grove teen killed in crash; passenger hospitalized in good condition

One Cottage Grove teenager was killed and another was critically injured Thursday after the vehicle they were in crashed in southern Woodbury.

One Cottage Grove teenager was killed and another was critically injured Thursday after the vehicle they were in crashed in southern Woodbury.

An 18-year-old male driver died shortly after being taken to Regions Hospital in St. Paul, according to a Woodbury Public Safety Department news release.

A 17-year-old female passenger, also from Cottage Grove, was critically injured in the crash, which occurred at 4:40 p.m. in the 5800 block of Sunny Hill Drive -– on the border of Woodbury and Cottage Grove. She was also taken to Regions.

A Regions spokeswoman confirmed that the 17-year-old female was still hospitalized Friday morning. She was listed in good condition.

The Bulletin will publish the crash victims' names after authorities release them publicly.

The release does not state how the crash occurred. According to the release, drugs and alcohol were not suspected in the crash.

The cause of the crash was being investigated by Woodbury public safety and the Minnesota State Patrol.
