Dollar Tree marks its Cottage Grove opening

The tea leaves suggest a good future for the Dollar Tree store in Cottage Grove.
That essentially was the message conveyed by Dollar Tree district manager Dean Possehl as he and others celebrated the store’s opening on Wednesday.
The discount-merchandise retailer had been looking to open in Cottage Grove for some time, Possehl said. It secured the strip mall space next to Target on East Point Douglas Road after Fashion Bug went out of business.
Possehl said Dollar Tree will do well in Cottage Grove because of the economy – people are more inclined to shop for bargain-priced items – and the store’s location. The company aims for space near other large stores with heavy traffic. Near Dollar Tree is Target, Cub Foods and other retailers and restaurants.
“I don’t think we could have picked a better spot,” he said.
All Dollar Tree merchandise is ticketed at $1 or less.
The store opened its doors April 19 and took part in a ribbon-cutting ceremony Wednesday with officials from the city of Cottage Grove and the Cottage Grove Area Chamber of Commerce.
