District 833 Superintendent Mark Porter was passed up for a similar job with Seminole County Public Schools in Florida.

Porter was among three finalists for the Seminole County superintendent position, but the school board there on Wednesday chose internal candidate Walt Griffin, the district’s executive director. The district announced the hire on its website.

Porter’s tenure as the top boss in South Washington County Schools ends in June, following the School Board’s decision last December to not renew his contract.

The Seminole County job pursuit followed Porter’s attempt earlier this year to land the superintendent job in the Orlando, Fla., district.

Porter’s application materials for the Seminole County job included letters of recommendation from District 833 School Board member Jim Gelbmann, former Woodbury Mayor Bill Hargis, Assistant District 833 Superintendent Keith Ryskoski and Woodbury Middle School Principal Kari Lopez.
