Woodbury’s Evan Erickson and Josh Erickson, Park’s Joey Pierre and East Ridge’s Andrew McDonough were recently selected to play in the highly regarded Ted Brill Great 8 Hockey Tournament.

In what could also be called the Minnesota high school hockey seniors All-Star tournament, the 28th Ted Brill Great 8 Tournament was held at Wakota Arena in South St. Paul on March 31 and April 1.

The tournament is a showcase event for seniors, with eight teams representing the playoff sections their high school teams play in.

Evan Erickson, Josh Erickson, Pierre and McDonough were each picked to play on the Section 3A/3AA team. Led by Cretin-Derham Hall’s Luke Dietch, the Section 3A/3AA team won all three of its games – beating Section 2A/2AA by a 5-4 score in the opener, Section 4A/4AA by a 6-5 score in the semifinals and won 4-3 in overtime in the finals over Section 7A/7AA. Dietch had a tournament-high four goals to go along with one assist in the three games.

The Royals’ Josh Erickson and the Raptors’ McDonough split the goaltending duties for the undefeated championship Section 3A/ 3AA team. Erickson was 2-0 at the tournament, stopping 49 of the 55 shots he faced in the three games for a 3.95 goals against average and a .891 save percentage. McDonough went 1-0 in the tournament, stopping 47 of 53 shots on goal in three games played for a 4.00 goals against average and a .887 save percentage. Evan Erickson, a senior forward from Woodbury, tallied three assists in his three games. Park’s Pierre played in all three games, too, but didn’t register a goal or an assist for the championship team.
