Newport police reports: Fight, fire

Fight
Newport police assisted St. Paul Park police officers as they responded to a fight at about 1:40 a.m. March 5 at Franke’s Bar, 304 Broadway Ave. A male suspect punched another man and then pushed down a woman, according to the report. The victim was bleeding from the nose. No arrests were made by Newport police.
Fire
Police were called March 2 to a home in the 400 block of Sixth Street for a fire complaint. Police talked to the homeowner, who said he put a small cabinet into his fire pit and lit it on fire. Officers informed the homeowner of the city’s recreational fire ordinance.
