A 65-year-old man was struck by an SUV Wednesday morning at the parking lot of the Norma Lane SuperAmerica in Woodbury.

Police identified the man as Kenneth Burke of Little Canada.

Emergency personnel extricated Burke from underneath the vehicle and transported him to Regions Hospital where he's listed in critical condition.

Police said the driver was 47-year-old Michael Carroll of Woodbury. He was driving a Ford Excursion truck that struck Burke as he walked out of the store.

Burke suffered “serious head injuries,” Woodbury Police Commander Jay Alberio said.

He added that he was conscious right after the accident.

It’s still early to determine whether charges will be filed against the driver and what the cause of the accident was.

The accident, which happened at 10:15 a.m., is under investigation by the Woodbury Police Department as well as the Minnesota State Patrol.

“At this point it doesn’t appear to be anything careless in nature,” Alberio said Wednesday. “We’re still trying to determine if the driver was distracted or what led to the driver not seeing the pedestrian or the pedestrian not seeing the vehicle.”
