Cottage Grove may get Discount Tire in former Hollywood Video propertyDiscount Tire, a national automotive tire chain, has submitted an application for a site plan review of the former Hollywood Video property at 80th Street and East Point Douglas Road.
A plan to redevelop a vacant, highly-visible commercial property in Cottage Grove is set to go to the city’s Planning Commission for review this month.
Discount Tire, a national automotive tire chain, has submitted an application for a site plan review of the former Hollywood Video property at 80th Street and East Point Douglas Road, said Danette Parr, the city’s community development director. Planning commissioners will review the proposal March 26.
City officials have tried to generate interest among developers in the empty retail property since the former video rental store closed roughly two years ago. Cottage Grove Mayor Myron Bailey said the city and the building’s owners had been in talks with, among other prospective tenants, a pharmacy and a restaurant before Discount Tire stepped forward in recent months.
Parr said no other zoning changes will be required under the plan submitted by the company last week. She said the company’s plans call for some slight modifications to the building.
“They’ve been looking at that site for a while and will be moving forward provided everything is approved,” she said.
Bailey said he doesn’t expect officials to take issue with the company’s plans for the site.
“I don’t expect there to be a problem,” Bailey said.
Discount Tire, headquartered in Arizona, has more than 800 tire retailers around the country, including 25 in Minnesota. An Inver Grove Heights location is currently the closest Discount Tire to Cottage Grove.
The city has been told by the building’s current owner, Jon Rappaport, of KCR Corporation, that the sale of the building isn’t yet finalized and likely won’t be until city officials sign off on the plans.
