East Ridge Athlete of the Week: Sam Scholz

East Ridge’s Sam Scholz had a breakthrough performance for the Raptors swimming and diving team last week.

East Ridge’s Sam Scholz had a breakthrough performance for the Raptors swimming and diving team last week.

Scholz, a sophomore, qualified for the 2011-12 state meet in the maximum four events as East Ridge finished in second place in the Section 4AA championship meet. In addition to helping two relays finish first and earn state berths, Scholz punched a ticket to the state meet with a qualifying time of 1:59.82 in the 200-yard individual medley, which was good for third place and beat the state cut in the 100-yard backstroke with a third-place 55.61.
