Newport police brief: Mountain lion sighting? No, just a house cat

A woman reported seeing a mountain lion, then pointed to a 'very large' domestic cat.

Newport police were called to the 1400 block of 10th Avenue after a homeowner reported seeing a mountain lion in the area.

While the officer talked to the woman outside, she pointed to a domestic cat as what she saw.

“It was not a mountain lion, but a very large house cat,” the officer wrote in the report.
