The Park boys hockey team put together one of its best games of the 2011-12 season, throttling Eastview 5-0 in the Section 3AA quarterfinals on Thursday, Feb. 23, at Eastview High School.
Fourth-seeded Eastview had no answer for the fifth-seeded Wolfpack’s swarming offense and couldn’t get the puck past Park’s senior goalie Erick Majerle, who recorded the shutout on 24 saves.
Park (13-9-4) took a 2-0 first-period lead on Eastview (10-14-2) then piled on three more goals in the second period and cruised to the five-goal win.
Luke Nelson scored two goals for the Wolfpack in the victory. Spencer Diedrich and Joey Pierre each had a goal and an assist and Cody Newton and Garrett Mahigan each registered two assists.
The win bought the Wolfpack a ticket to the Section 3AA semifinals at the State Fairground Coliseum on Saturday, Feb. 25. Park will face off with top-seeded and third-ranked Eagan, the defending section champion. The Wildcats are 22-3-1 on the year. Puck drops at 6 p.m. Seventh-seed East Ridge, which upset Apple Valley, and sixth-seed Hastings, which upset Cretin-Derham Hall, follow the Park and Eagan game in the other semifinal.
