Improvements to Armstrong Elementary School in Cottage Grove top District 833 summer improvements

This summer, School District 833 will spend $4.9 million to replace the heating and cooling system at Armstrong Elementary School, completing the replacement cycle at all but the newest elementary schools, according to a budget presented to the School Board last week.

The total levy, separate from the general fund, is $8.3 million and will be part of the total budget approval set for May. The Armstrong construction also includes $400,000 to repair bathrooms, and $476,000 to replace gym lights, replace partition doors, replace water softener and heaters, replace kitchen exhaust hood and modify a boiler stack.

Districtwide, gyms and cafeterias will be painted, in addition to exterior doors and light poles and parking lots repaired for a total of $315,000. Underground sprinklers will be repaired and exterior classrooms doors replaced for $64,000. Halide gym lights will be replaced at Crestview, Pullman, Pine Hill and Newport elementary schools for $80,000.

Lockers at Woodbury Middle School will be replaced for $325,000 and Woodbury High School for $555,000.

Money spent in the alternate facilities levy can’t be used for classroom instruction, according to state law.
