Rep. Kriesel: No Senate run against Sieben; House is 'more rowdy'

State Rep. John Kriesel announced Wednesday he won't challenge Sen. Katie Sieben this fall, after he said he had been encouraged to run against the fellow Cottage Grove legislator.
Kriesel, a Republican, used Twitter to suggest he instead will run for a second House term in November.
"Thanks for the nice texts and emails, but I am not considering a MN Senate run at this time," Kriesel tweeted Wednesday morning. "The MN House is more rowdy. That's my style."
New legislative boundaries announced by a judicial redistricting panel Tuesday left Senate District 57 with a new number but with few geographic changes. However, the redrawn district will no longer include St. Mary's Point. That is home to Republican Karin Housley, who had planned a second run against Sieben after narrowly losing in 2010.
Without Housley, Republicans will be looking for a candidate to challenge Sieben in the new District 54. Likewise, Democrats need a candidate to run against Kriesel in the newly drawn House District 54A.
Sieben, DFL-Cottage Grove, has said she plans to seek re-election.
Neither Sieben nor Kriesel returned calls for comment on the redistricting changes.
