Park boys basketball: Suburban East Conference elite wallop Wolfpack

The Park boys basketball team went up against two of the most highly regarded teams in the Suburban East Conference, and the state, last week and came away knowing why.

Park (2-20; 0-14 SEC) lost 66-28 to eighth-ranked Roseville on Tuesday, Feb. 14, before falling 69-20 to 10th-ranked Cretin-Derham Hall on Friday, Feb. 17. The losses put Park’s losing streak at 17 straight, since starting the season 2-3 overall.

To start the week, Roseville (18-4; 12-2 SEC) went up 49-18 on Park in the first half, then coasted to the win at Park High School. Seniors Anthony Tola and Robert Briggs paced the Wolfpack with eight points apiece.

Against Cretin-Derham Hall on Friday at Park, the Raiders (14-8; 11-3 SEC) raced out to a 42-9 first-half lead before pumping the breaks in the second half, outscoring the Wolfpack 27-11. Twelve different players scored for the Raiders in the game. Park senior forward Tim Vorwerk led the Wolfpack with six points in the loss.

Entering this week, Park had four games left in the regular season. The Wolfpack traveled to Mounds View to tip off with the Mustangs on Tuesday, Feb. 21, after the Bulletin went to print. Next, Park is at White Bear Lake on Friday, Feb. 24. The Bears beat Park 79-44 earlier this season.
