Park wrestling: Wolfpack earns school-record 21st dual meet win

The Park wrestling team set a school dual-meet record with 21 wins on the year by beating Suburban East Conference foe Cretin-Derham Hall and non-conference opponent South St. Paul on Thursday, Feb. 9, in a triangular at Cretin-Derham Hall High School.
Park, which is 21-7 on the year, beat Cretin-Derham Hall 65-12 and South St. Paul 44-27 on the night.
“We would have liked to have done it sooner but last night was great night,” Park head coach Jim LaBrosse said. “The kids wrestled very well and they definitely had their sights set on winning both matches.”
In the win over Cretin-Derham Hall, Park sophomore Austin Thurmes won by pin at 106 pounds, freshman Daniel Duval won with a quick pin at 126 pounds, freshman Cory Flaata earned a 52-second pin at 152 pounds, eighth grader Zach Wills won a 48-seond pin at 170 pounds and sophomore Cody Linssen won with a pin at 195 pounds. Also, Park sophomore J.P. Pallais, senior David Ayers, sophomore David Giadyu and senior D’Monte Farley all won by forfeit.
In the win over South St. Paul, Collin LaBrosse won with a pin at 106 pounds, freshman Jake Lanik won 10-3 at 120 pounds, Duval won by way of pin at 126 pounds, Giadyu won 4-2 at 138 pounds, senior Kenny Gerhardt earned a technical fall win, 17-2, at 145 pounds, Flaata won with a pin at 152 pounds, Farley won 11-5 at 160 pounds, and senior Nate Bauman and Linssen each earned pin wins.
Next, Park will take to the mat at the Section 3AAA team tournament on Friday, Feb. 19, at Apple Valley High School. Park earned the fourth seed in the section and will take on fifth seed Burnsville in the opening round. No. 1-ranked Apple Valley earned the top seed. First round begins at 4 p.m. A win over the Blaze buys Park a date with the Eagles.
