Cottage Grove police reports: theft, assault, burglary, property damage

Property damage
A homeowner in the 7000 block of Goodview Avenue reported Jan. 20 that an unknown vehicle struck mailboxes.
Two 12-year-old Cottage Grove males were referred to the Youth Service Bureau after they broke a car wash window while playing with an air hose at Holiday gas station, 8610 East Point Douglas Road.
A Cottage Grove resident reported Jan. 24 that an unknown person drove through the yard of the residence in the 7400 block of Hidden Valley Hollow. No damage estimate was listed.
Theft
A Hastings woman reported Jan. 20 that someone stole clothes and antiques from her vehicle parked at Applebee’s, 8380 East Point Douglas Road. The clothing was valued at $800.
A North St. Paul resident reported Jan. 21 that someone stole a video game console and accessories from a Cottage Grove home in the 7300 block of Jorgensen Avenue.
Tom Moy Café, 7420 80th St., reported on Jan. 21 that someone dined at the restaurant and left without paying the $38 bill.
A Cottage Grove man reported Jan. 21 that someone stole an iPod, camera and messenger bag from his vehicle while it was parked at Anytime Fitness, 7750 Harkness Ave. The loss was estimated at $1,050. There was $300 damage to the vehicle.
Holiday gas station, 8610 East Point Douglas Road, reported a gas drive-off Jan. 24.
A Cottage Grove man reported Jan. 25 that a license plate was stolen from a vehicle parked outside Park High School, 8480 80th St.
A Cottage Grove woman reported Jan. 26 that two vehicles were stolen from a home in the 8200 block of Hyde Avenue. One vehicle was later located in St. Paul; the ignition had been punched, the report said.
A 16-year-old Cottage Grove female and a 15-year-old Cottage Grove female were referred to the Youth Service Bureau after they stole merchandise from Kohl’s, 7990 Hardwood Ave., on Jan. 30. One teen took $185 worth of merchandise, the other $182 worth of items.
Assault
A Shakopee man was arrested Jan. 22 for assault following a fight at a Cottage Grove home. Police were called to a home in the 7300 block of Hidden Valley Lane around 2:10 a.m. on a report of domestic assault. Police arrested Nathan G. Polinsky, 24,on suspicion of fifth-degree domestic assault for allegedly punching a 26-year-old Eagan woman several times. They were at the residence for a party.
False report
A 25-year-old St. Paul woman was charged with providing false information to police after police were called to a home in the 7700 block of Hemingway Avenue about 3:30 a.m. Jan. 22 for a reported assault. No assault had taken place, according to the report.
Fire
A Cottage Grove resident reported Jan. 22 that someone put a lighter fluid bottle in a mailbox and started it on fire outside a home in the 7800 block of Hillside Trail.
Squad damage
A Cottage Grove police officer bumped into a State Patrol squad while leaving the police department parking lot to respond to a call on Jan. 26. There was no significant damage, according to the report.
Burglary
Cottage Grove Optical, 7420 East Point Douglas Road, reported Jan. 30 that someone broke into the business the previous night and stole about $100 cash.
Detox
A Mankato man was transported to a detox facility after police were called to the American Motorsports Bar, 7240 East Point Douglas Road, about 1:45 a.m. Jan. 31 on a report of a suicidal man. The man was out of control, the report said.
