East Ridge boys swimming & diving: Raptors improve to 7-1 in SEC with win over Raiders

The East Ridge boys swimming and diving team sank Suburban East Conference opponent Cretin-Derham Hall last week in the first of their final two conference competitions of the 2012 season.

The East Ridge boys swimming and diving team sank Suburban East Conference opponent Cretin-Derham Hall last week in the first of their final two conference competitions of the 2012 season.

The Raptors were victorious over the Raiders with a 101-74 final score. The win boosts East Ridge’s record to 7-1 in the conference.

Raptors seniors Austin Davidson and Matt Koken helped East Ridge nab a first place win in the 200-yard medley relay event, alongside team members sophomore Sam Scholz and freshman Kent Rabideaux. Davidson went on to win first place in the 200 yard IM and 100 yard backstroke events, while Koken finished first in the 200 yard freestyle.

Kent Rabideaux’s 57.05 final time earned him first place in the 100 yard butterfly, and he was followed by Koken in second place. East Ridge freshman teammate Garrett Verhoeven added another Raptors’ victory in the 500 yard freestyle, taking the event with a 5:09.43 finish.

In the diving event, East Ridge swept the first three places. Freshman Max Samuelson won the event with a record 175.15 score, his personal best, followed by junior Evan Coutu with 141.60 points and sophomore Lafayette Doty in third place with 134.70 points.

Senior Nate Rabideaux was aided by fellow senior Justin Kong, sophomore Ryan Schiferl and Kent Rabideaux in the 200 yard freestyle event, where the team’s collective 1:34.79 time secured another first place win for East Ridge. Additionally, Nate Rabideaux placed first for the Raptors in the 50 yard freestyle event, coming in at 23.75. He also finished second in the 100 yard freestyle at 51.29, right on the heels of Cretin-Derham Hall’s Tim O’Brien, whose 50.01 final time won first place for the Raiders.

The Raptors will host Hastings at Woodbury Middle School on Thursday, Feb. 9 in their last conference meet before the section 4AA preliminary contests on Thursday, Feb. 23.
