Victor Murray, 79, Cottage Grove, formerly of Randolph, died Saturday, Jan. 14, surrounded by his loving family.
He was born Nov. 3, 1932, son of Rueben and Anna Murray. He graduated from Randolph High School in 1951, where he was a three-sport letter winner. Many ranked him as one of the best athletes to come out of Randolph, and one teammate said "Vic had that uncanny way of making something out of nothing."
After high school, he served in the Air Force for 4 years.
Victor married Evelyn Teske in 1957. They first lived in Cannon Falls for 3 years and then made their home in Cottage Grove in 1959. He worked as a jet mechanic in the Twin Cities and then acquired a Shell gas station in Cottage Grove. He worked on the railroad for 8 years and then took a job at North Star Steel in St. Paul. He retired in 1993.
He and his wife spent winters in Fla. and then Ariz. He enjoyed golfing in Ariz. and spending time with his sister, Marilyn, and brother, James there. If there was a legacy Vic Murray left, it was that he wanted to be a role model for his family.
Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Evelyn; children Becki (John) Johnson and Bryan (Theresa) Murray; grandchildren, Johnny, Brad (Cassie), Justin, Brent, Travis and Kayla; great-grandsons, Cody and Bradley; siblings Richard (LaRose), James (Judith), Rueben (Sheila), Marilyn (Marvin) Giefer, Dennis (Michelle) and Thomas Murray; nieces; nephews; relatives; and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; son Bradley; and sister Janet Kuehn.
