Board elects new chair; Weik chosen as vice-chairCommissioners elected Dennis Hegberg, whose District 1 includes Forest Lake, to serve as Board Chairman for 2012. Commissioner Lisa Weik, who represents much of Woodbury, will serve as the vice-chair.
The selection of a new Washington County Board Chair marked the start of 2012 for commissioners in Stillwater on this week.
Commissioners elected Dennis Hegberg, whose District 1 includes Forest Lake, to serve as Board Chairman for 2012. He replaces Gary Kriesel, of Stillwater, who served in the position that traditionally rotates among Board members during 2011.
Commissioner Lisa Weik, who represents much of Woodbury, will serve as the Washington County Board Vice-Chair in 2012.
“I think you’ve done an outstanding job with your leadership,” Hegberg told Kriesel after the Board awarded the outgoing chair a plaque at the conclusion of Tuesday’s board meeting.
Hegberg -- who has served more than 20 years as a county commissioner -- will lead the Board during a year when it will select a replacement for retiring County Administrator Jim Schug, who leaves his post later this month. It is also a year when the redrawing of election boundaries will likely mean all five commissioners face re-election campaigns in the fall.
