An estimated 100 people took part in the second-annual Hale to the Bird 5K on Thanksgiving in Cottage Grove.

The run, which started at Hamlet Park, was a fundraiser for the Friends in Need Food Shelf in St. Paul Park. Organizers were still tallying donations early this week. (Last year's race with 84 participants raised around $600.) This year's race winners were Jon Webster and Katie Bunkers, both of Cottage Grove.

The annual race, organized by Adam and Matt Elling and Tim Maurer, started as a local alternative to a popular Thanksgiving morning 5K in downtown Minneapolis.
