Cottage Grove police reports: Unruly customers, road rage and suspicious activity
Recent police activity in Cottage Grove.
Upset customer
Bamboo Garden restaurant, 7145 East Point Douglas Road, reported Aug. 6 that a male customer was upset about the quality of his food. Police were called, but the restaurant settled the issue with the customer.
An employee of the Cottage Grove Post Office, 7130 East Point Douglas Road, called police Aug. 26 to report an unruly customer. The caller said the man was upset and argumentative because he could not enter the post office through a door marked exit. He wanted to use that door instead of the entrance door because it was closer to the customer service counter. No arrests or citations issued.
TCF Bank, 7155 East Point Douglas Road, called police Sept. 5 after an unhappy customer made verbal threats to bank employees. The suspect then left the bank. The incident is under investigation.
Suspicious activity
A Cottage Grove man reported Aug. 7 that he found his mail on the ground outside his mailbox at his home in the 7300 block of Ivystone Avenue. One envelope had been shredded and a debit card was missing.
Police were called shortly before midnight Sept. 4 to the 7300 block of East Point Douglas Road after a passing motorist noticed a man and woman trying to open doors to a business. When police arrived, the men and woman said they were waiting for a ride home but were cold, so they tried to enter the business to stay warm.
A Cottage Grove man arrived at the Cottage Grove Police Department Sept. 6 to report that another man had been videotaping him. The suspect had followed the man to the police department, where it was determined that the suspect actually was a private investigator working a case involving the man who reported him. The two men left the police department driving in separate directions.
Fire
Authorities were called to Grey Cloud Elementary School Aug. 10 to extinguish papers that were on fire in the parking lot.
Emergency crews were called to the Office Max property at 9010 Jamaica Ave. early Sept. 4 on a report of a Dumpster fire behind the building. The Dumpster was fully engulfed when police arrived. Firefighters extinguished the fire.
Firefighters extinguished a Dumpster fire Sept. 4 in the 7700 block of Hinton Avenue. The fire may have been caused when charcoal was dumped in the receptacle, according to the report.
Road rage
Police were called Aug. 13 to the 8600 block of East Point Douglas Road on a report of road rage. A driver said another vehicle was tailgating him and followed him into a parking lot where the suspect driver confronted the man. No assault occurred. Police were given a license plate number, but it did not match the vehicle description. No arrests made.
Two drivers arrived at the Cottage Grove Police Department Sept. 2 following a road rage incident involving the two on Innovation Road. They had exchanged obscene gestures before both going to the police department. They were advised on the dangers of road rage and then went their separate ways, according to the report.
