Stolen vehicle recovered in Cottage Grove, but suspects flee

Cottage Grove police tracked down a stolen vehicle, but the alleged thieves left no tracks and were not arrested.

A police officer attempted to stop a vehicle about 1:20 a.m. Aug. 4 at Ideal and Ingleside avenues, but the driver did not pull over. Instead, the driver led police on a chase, according to the report.

A short time later the occupants exited on the passenger side of the vehicle and fled on foot in the area of the 8500 block of Hillside Trail.

The unoccupied vehicle rolled backward, hitting a Cottage Grove squad car and causing minor damage. Officers used a police canine to attempt to track the suspects, but could not locate them.

The 2004 Toyota was reported stolen out of Eagan, Minn.
