Local libraries
Washington County Libraries offer many services to county residents without charge. There are three branch libraries in the south Washington County area.
Washington County Libraries offer services to county residents without charge, except photocopying fees, replacement charges should an item be damaged or lost, and a late processing fee per item for materials that are lost. The late processing fee is assessed in order to recover some of the costs for postage, computer software maintenance, and related staff time and materials that have been incurred in trying to get lost items back.
Library cards can be used at most libraries in the state. Washington County libraries have their own interlibrary delivery system that operates Monday through Friday and moves library materials from site to site as customers request them.
Library cards can be used to check out materials that include books, audio books on tape or compact disc, music CDs, DVDs, video cassettes, magazines and more. Knowledgeable staff members are always on hand to help customers locate materials. At Park Grove Branch Library, 30 workstations provide Internet access to the public; wireless access is also available.
Park Grove Branch Library in Cottage Grove and all Washington County Branch Libraries make available electronic references via the Internet. These references cover a broad range of subjects, and many provide full text documents ready to view or print. For example, log on to “Academic Search Premier” to locate magazine articles to use as resources for writing a report. All of the electronic references are available inside the library and many can be accessed from home using the library’s website at www.co.washington.mn.us/library.
Using the website, customers can search the library’s catalog, request library materials, renew library materials, register for a library card, ask a reference question and find library hours and locations.
Story times for preschool children are scheduled at Park Grove Branch Library at 10:30 a.m. Mondays. Baby story time for children up to 24 months and caregivers is offered at 9:45 a.m. Mondays. During summer months, teenagers and grade-schoolers can take advantage of summer reading programs.
Other services include: downloadable eAudiobooks, large print materials, Instant Book Club Kits, library tours, book clubs, meeting room, photocopiers and Museum Adventure Passes.
