A second consecutive day of sweltering temps has south Washington County again under an excessive heat advisory through the evening on Friday with strong storms expected to follow.

Temperatures reached as high as 97 degrees Friday afternoon with dew points in the 70s and the National Weather Service warned the warm, muggy conditions presented a heightened risk of heat-related illnesses.

The Twin Cities metro area is also under a severe thunderstorm watch, with strong storms that could pack high winds and hail expected to hit the area beginning this evening. The National Weather Service predicts rain totals could be as much as three-quarters of an inch.
