Newport's Anderson among candidates for Farmington administrator job

Four city officials with Washington County connections, including Newport City Administrator Brian Anderson, are candidates to be the top city official in Farmington.

Four city officials with Washington County connections, including Newport City Administrator Brian Anderson, are candidates to be the top city official in Farmington.

Six candidates have accepted interviews for the vacant Farmington city administrator position. They are:

-- Anderson, who has been Newport city administrator for about 2 1/2 years.

-- Bart Fischer, assistant city administrator/economic development director in Chaska. Fischer previously served as Newport economic development director an as interim Newport city administrator.

-- Ron Moorse, government affairs consultant for the city of Afton.

-- Bruce Messelt, city administrator in Lake Elmo.

-- David McKnight, former Farmington City Council member and city administrator in Mendota Heights.

-- Samantha Orduno, city administrator in Dayton.

The names of the six candidates were made public Wednesday.

The candidates will have their first interviews with the Farmington City Council on Friday, June 24. A meet and greet event is scheduled from 4 to 6 p.m. Monday, June 27. Both the interviews and the meet and greet are open to the public.

Council members then plan to select finalists during a June 29 special meeting. Second interviews for the finalists will be held July 11. Both are open to the public.
