A fire Monday afternoon caused extensive damage to a Cottage Grove home.
Cottage Grove Fire Chief Bob Byerly said crews searched the home at 8255 Hyde Ave. upon arrival and did not find anyone inside the house.
The fire likely started in the rear of the home and was spreading through the rafters before it was extinguished, Byerly said.
The cause was not immediately known.
Dozens of firefighters from a number of departments responded. Crews from Cottage Grove, Woodbury, Newport and St. Paul Park were on the scene after 4 p.m.
Cottage Grove Public Safety Director Craig Woolery said multiple 911 calls came from outside the home.
Fire crews took shifts working in and around the home due to the heat and humidity, Woolery said.
Cottage Grove authorities and the state fire marshall will investigate the cause.
Check back for more on the cause of the fire.
