DoLores Backer, 86

DoLores Backer of St. Paul Park passed away peacefully on May 13, 2011.

She was born in Jefferson, S.D. Married Elmer in 1950 and moved to St. Paul. They raised nine children to be kind, hardworking, value family, and wait their turn. She was generous with hugs and loved people. She found joy in a well-made potato salad, a perfect cribbage hand, and conversations with friends. She believed in the power of prayer. Many people felt comforted to be included in her prayers. She was a foundation of love.

Beloved wife of Elmer; loving mother of Mary Ann (David) Holmquist, Bob, Carol, Helen (Jim) Conley, Don (Thelma), Joyce (Gregg) Brooks, Joan (Randy) Dague, Joe (Cathy), Fr. Dennis; 14 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; sister of Lorraine Gareau, Marguerite Novinski; sister-in-law of Elmer Bowden.

Preceded in death by sister Ann Bowden; brother-in-law, Joe Novinski.

Mass of Christian Burial 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 18, at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church, 920 Holley, St. Paul Park. Interment church cemetery. Visitation 4-8 p.m. Tuesday and 10-11 a.m. Wednesday at church.
