What’s your favorite sports memory?
Winning the USSSA State Tournament on the 15AAA team. Also, winning the inaugural East Ridge basketball game last year.
Do you have one individual performance at a game that sticks out as being a great one?
Going 7-for-8 with six RBIs in a JV baseball double-header against Stillwater while I was a sophomore at Woodbury.
Do you have one individual performance at a game that sticks out as being a bad one?
Gave up 10 hits in one inning while pitching as a seventh grader.
Do you have any pre-game rituals?
Eating a bagel that my girlfriend brings me before basketball games.
Do you have a nickname? How did you get it?
J-Train, Johnny Do, Johnny Hip, Hip-Hop, J-Hip — all from either friends or various players and coaches throughout the years.
What do you like to do out of the gym?
Go to movies and visit the animals at the humane society. I have a soft spot for animals.
What’s your favorite TV show and movie?
Favorite TV show is Seinfeld and my favorite movie is Braveheart.
Who’s your favorite athlete?
Derek Jeter. I’ve always been a Yankee fan and idolized his skills and leadership. Plus we share the same hometown of Pequannock, New Jersey. Also, “Pistol” Pete Maravich. When I was 12 years old, I invested my birthday money in his “Homework Basketball” DVDs, which have helped me tremendously throughout my career.
What’s your favorite sports team? (besides your own)
The Green Bay Packers. I come from a long line of Packer fans and I’ll being wearing green and gold for life.
What’s your favorite sport? Second favorite sport?
During basketball season it’s basketball and during baseball season it’s baseball.
What are your future goals?
I plan to play baseball at the collegiate level.
What advice do you have for young players?
Practice, Practice, Practice. If you’re not getting better, there’s always someone out there who is.
