East Ridge gymnastics: Raptors start with win

The East Ridge gymnastics team began the 2010-11 season with a Suburban East Conference win over Hastings on Thursday, Dec. 2, at East Ridge High School.

The East Ridge gymnastics team began the 2010-11 season with a Suburban East Conference win over Hastings on Thursday, Dec. 2, at East Ridge High School.

In the meet, the Raptors (1-0) scored 130.675 points to beat Hastings, which had a 121.15 score. East Ridge junior Leah Robinette led the way, winning the all-around competition with a score of 34.775. Robinette’s night included a 9.325 on the vault, a 9.05 on the bars, and 8.2 scores on the beam and in the floor exercise. Additionally for East Ridge, freshman Keliana Thompson had a 9.075 on the vault and an 8.625 in the floor and seventh-grader Megan Tollen had a meet-best 8.775 in the floor exercise and scored an 8.05 on the beam.

“Some solid performances this meet but there is much room for improvement,” East Ridge head coach Christine Askham said.

Next, East Ridge travels to Stillwater on Thursday, Dec. 9, to take on the Ponies.

“Stillwater is a consistent and competitive team and we will have to hit our routines in order to compete with them,” Askham said.
