State Rep. Denny McNamara will control a committee in the new Republican-controlled Minnesota House.

McNamara was named chairman of the State Government Finance Committee. The panel oversees and controls spending in state agencies.

The Hastings Republican was elected earlier this month to his fifth two-year term in the House. He represents District 57B.

The GOP, which took control of the Minnesota House and Senate in the Nov. 2 election, announced committee chair assignments Wednesday. A chairmanship gives a legislator greater influence at the Capitol.
