Sen. Katie Sieben held up against a wave of Republican success Tuesday night, fighting off a tough re-election challenge from St. Mary's Point businesswoman Karin Housley to earn a second term in the state Senate.
While House District 57A fell into the hands of Republicans Tuesday, Sieben held on to her seat — but not with nearly the cushion she has experienced in past campaigns in what has been a DFL stronghold for decades.
Sieben collected 50.9 percent — 15,812 of the 31,043 votes that were cast. Housley received 15,206 votes, 48.9 percent of ballots cast.
