Peterson out as voters hand Lehrke upset win

Voters delivered an election night stunner in south Washington County on Tuesday, electing political newcomer Autumn Lehrke to replace longtime incumbent Myra Peterson

Voters delivered an election night stunner in south Washington County on Tuesday, electing political newcomer Autumn Lehrke to replace longtime incumbent Myra Peterson as the District 4 representative on the Washington County Board of Commissioners.

Lehrke, making her first run for elected office, garnered 52.8 percent — 8,177 votes — to take down Peterson, who finished 932 votes behind with 46.8 percent. Whether it was the anti-incumbent mood that permeated much of the electorate in 2010, or something else entirely, someone other than Peterson will represent south Washington County in Stillwater for the first time since 1993.
