Grey Cloud flagpole could return to town hall

Grey Cloud Island Township is making plans to return the flagpole at the town hall to active use.
The task was prompted after Town Clerk Rich Mullen accepted an American flag at the funeral of Bill Schmitzer, former township road boss and long-time Aggregate Industries employee in early October.
Mullen accepted the flag, given to honor Schmitzer’s service in the Air Force, because no immediate relatives attended the interment in the township cemetery.
Schmitzer’s flag, which is cotton and made in America, according to Mullen, will be swapped with the flag in the town hall, which is nylon, because nylon will stand up to the weather,
The board has yet to decide whether to move the pole and how the flag will be lighted because it would not be taken down every day. Flag decorum dictates an American flag be illuminated at night or taken down before sundown.
