The WAG Farms Dog Park was open to Cottage Grove dogs on Saturday. All were on leashes but those who lobbied for the park over the past five years hope it won’t be long before the 14-acre site will be fenced and dogs can run off-leash.

Of the $14,000 needed for the fence, $4,000 has been raised so far, according to Dick Swanson, president of WAG Farms Dog Park Association and Ellen Edwards, past-president.

The association is selling T-shirts and sweatshirts to raise money and taking contributions from those who came to the park located just up the road from the city’s compost operation.
